2022.01.19 16:47 moneyyman How do I stay remote at my job?
So I am an account manager at a company in Southern California. Making $62K/year. Super easy role, work 7-4 but only about 4 hours of actual work. I started in April of 2020. Since this past September, I started traveling while working because I am remote so why not. Mainly been working in Colorado and going back to CA every so often. Also, I love traveling so its been super nice. The thing is, I dont want to live in CA. My uncle is actually buying me a house wherever I want, and that is not feasible to buy for the prices in CA, let alone other reasons I dot want to live there.
That would be all and well, but there has been talk the past few months of going back in the office. Our CEO send an email saying they signed a new lease and are moving in the new building now. The email wasn't specific, but he mentioned it would be part time in the office (2-3x a week), but he used language about how they are willing to work with some people (again wasn't specific). We actually have a rare company wide zoom meeting in a week and I assume that will be the topic of conversation.
So how do I should I go about this once they tell us were going back in? There is precedent for remote work. There is 2 employees in my same role in Oregon and 1 in Arizona. However, they started remote even before the lockdown so they are staying remote. I heard someone say to a lower level employee that since they were hired during the lockdown as a remote worker it was always the language that we would eventually move back in the office so that might apply to me.
I guess the first issue is tax reasons. I heard that we only have tax setups in CA, OR, and AZ. Even when we have been hiring new remote people during the lockdown, its only been in those states.
So how do I go about this? Do i make it a statement as in "Hey, I love this role, but I am not aiming to live in CA anymore and moving to CO. So I would love to stay in this job as a remote employee. Or do I just simply ask "May I work remote still?" Also if the option were to be that I can stay in remote but only in OR or AZ, I would probably still do that. But would it be weird if I say I am moving to CO, but then they tell me sorry you can only work remote in OR, then I say alright OR works? Is it better if I give them a reason why as in "My uncle is buying me a home, CA is not price feasible, thats my reason"?
If they say no to working remote, should I push back? Maybe ask for a pay decrease. Maybe offer to go in 2x a month (could fly in). If need be go in, I may go in for 4 months, save up money, then move out and maybe have to find a new job.

2022.01.19 16:47 RevolutionaryGood794 Marriott Customer Service Win!
My wife and I recently had a horrendous stay at a Fairfield Inn. The property would not contact us back after filling out the concern form online so I called Marriott 800 number. The rep looked through the complaint and saw that the property has not contacted me, and gave me 25,000 points! It’s only a category three 17,500 point property and I would have been happy with as little as 5000 points for the trouble. Glad to see them step up as we were at the end of a five property vacation and there were a lot of issues at each one of them.

2022.01.19 16:47 parmesanbutt Is it depressing moving from SF to the East Bay?
Is it a difficult transition to move from SF, where most of the jobs and nightlife and world class amenities are, to the more suburban East Bay?
I came to SF over a year ago from out of state and have never really ever even thought to visit the cities across the Bay. I still have plenty to explore in the 7x7 miles I’m in.

2022.01.19 16:47 sassypls My time isn't being respected, I'm pretty sure this is foreshadowing.
I have been interviewing for this job since November. Initially they stopped interviewing because of the holidays, so I told the girl I understood and would reach back out after the holidays.
After the new year I reached out, she said she'd like to set up some time to talk about the position again because it's changed, cool, we spoke and then she said let's try to do an interview with execs next day. (first week of january) That didn't work out, neither did the next day. And then she asked my schedule, and my availability for the following week. I replied and heard nothing back.
Fast forward a week of ghosting and no replies, she sends me a message saying these two days work, which works best? I give her my answer, great, interview scheduled.
Fast forward to today, I am sitting in the zoom lobby, 10 mins past the interview, she messages saying the execs got pulled away and will need to reschedule. I specifically set aside time for this position and don't have much flexibility as I work full time.
Should I just let it go since they are not respecting my time right off the bat? Am I being a bit dramatic? I just genuinely don't feel as if my time is being respected and I feel like that's my answer but I'm desperately trying to escape a toxic work culture that I'm currently in so I feel a tad desperate.

2022.01.19 16:47 greenappletree Using a VC strategy to invest in cryptocurrency by going after unicorns and loosing on the rest. Thoughts?
You know the phrase go big or go home: in his book secrets of Sand Hill Road by Scott Kupor he wrote about a very interesting observation, in that venture capitalist, unlike traditional investments ( which aims to maximize gain but reduce losses), VC instead aims to strike out 99 and win 1;
Its really weird, they they don't average down, they don't play it safe; in fact they expect to loose most of the time; but why? doesn't that go against everything about investing?
Well the thing is their aim is for the 1:100 to get that unicorn ( a term used in the venture capital industry to describe a privately held startup company with a value of over $1 billion. ).
In other words they don't want singles or even doubles they want home runs. This is not to say that they gamble. Again is not gambling. Is not like throwing a bunch of money and see what sticks is more like throwing a bunch of money on high risk but carefully evaluated companies. There is a big difference between throwing money at something randomly and taking a bigger, more calculated, risk.
I'm not saying that this is good/bad approach but something to consider. For example, what if 10% of a portfolio was VC like and its made to take higher risk going in knowing that 99:100 will fail but looking for extreme gains?

2022.01.19 16:47 Open-Reflection-5420 I don’t trust my boyfriend because he likes girls pictures on Instagram - I don’t know if I’m insecure or if my feelings are valid
So I have been cheated on in all my past relationships and so I have some insecurities from that and I get jealous easily, it sucks but I currently have stopped trusting my boyfriend due to his Instagram behaviour.
He received a story reply (it was a pic of us 2 that she replied to saying ‘that looks amazing’) by this girl and I asked who she was… he seemed weird about it and mumbled something like ‘I dunno just this friend who knows James restaurant manager’ (James is his best friend)
So I found his reaction strange. He also said ‘she’s pretty hot actually’ which pissed me Off and I went quiet with him for a while.
So later on I went to find this girls Instagram and he has liked pretty much all her pics dating back a couple years, he even commented a fire emoji on one (we weren’t together when he did that) but he still likes her pics now… which I find disrespectful as there’s just no need!
I ended up going through his Instagram and found another pretty girl who he has slept with previously and he’s liked all her recent selfies.
I don’t know if I’m right to feel weird about all this. I can’t bring it up with him or he will know I looked through his Instagram… but I honestly feel like ending our relationship because I just struggle to trust anyone and this seems shady to me! It ruins my self esteem as well and I feel like shit about myself after seeing it.
Any replies or advice appreciated :)

2022.01.19 16:47 NachoSantoBr Vacaciones a Bariloche - Patagonia
