2022.01.19 17:23 skeezebucket WE HAVE A SURPLUS!
Hi all, I’m new to this sub but looking for some advice from fellow teachers.
My high school social studies department currently has a $13,420 surplus in our budget that we need to spend. We have been asked to present some ideas for these funds by Feb 1.
Looking for any suggestions on innovative technologies, classroom essentials, anything really! Thanks in advance.

I'm about to start using the lighting at work a lot, I'll have a smaller amount of funds on there so it being custodial isn't a huge issue.
I dabbled with blue wallet like 2 years ago, is this still the best option or is there a lot of good competition for lightning wallets?

So far we have Byron, Heath & August. To go with an H surname.
I specifically picked Aussie-ish names but now the criticisms we've heard are that they're so iconically Australian they sound bogan when used together. We're kind of stuck though. We've gone through hundreds of names & can't seem to agree on any of them.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you!

2022.01.19 17:23 MsVxxen Investing IS Gambling
| TLDR ABSTRACT: Investing=Gambling. Trading=High Effort Gambling. Hodling=Low Effort Gambling.|
- Cat Gambling With Mouse -
Posts keep pooping up that one form of crypto market participation is "Investing", whereas the other type is "Gambling".
Reality: all crypto market coin purchasing which seeks to earn a gain is GAMBLING.
Just say it aloud when no one else is around, you won't (likely) melt.
Let's review what the terms mean, (out comes the dictionary/WikiPedia citations):
Gambling is the wagering something of value on an event with an uncertain outcome with the intent of winning something else of value. Gambling thus requires three elements to be present: consideration, risk, and a prize.
"Investment is the dedication of an asset to attain an increase in value over a period of time. Investment requires a sacrifice of some present asset, such as time, money, or effort. In finance, the purpose of investing is to generate a return from the invested asset."
Of course "gambling" is a trigger term-and generally denotes a negative.
Meanwhile "investing" is not a trigger term-and is universally positive.
Small wonder they are at odds in subs like these & vociferously responded to as they are hurled about.
But if we use consensually validated language in the discussion (the only way to have a meaningful discussion), it is quite clear that Crypto Investing is Gambling, because:
The Crypto Investment Outcome Is Not "Certain".
Now before everyone packs in with their stories of huge gains---the inference being that said gains (had to date), are somehow indicative of what will happen in the future---the data required to support such a rainbow narrative is just not there. Could it turn out true? Yes. But until it does-crypto purchases made for the purpose of seeking future gain IS gambling-per the term's definition.
There are "good gambles" (ONE to date), and bad gambles (PSWAP to date). But each are just that.
Though unpopular-this is not a pedantic argument-rather, this is something that should be clearly understood by all 24/7. Once done, all can just move on with that dose of reality sitting beside whatever narrative one prefers to live with, and "invest" (gamble) upon. No worries.
The "crypto will go up if you are patient" narrative is largely based upon immature market action to date. Bottom line: the statement is consistent to a certain period in time with certain assets. Yes, crypto market performance is generally very impressive, but the performance is far from Certain. (Which is why so many nervous posts exist in so many communication forums-such as this sub. The majority I am guessing are from HODLrs, not traders.).
That narrative blinds many to the serious risks involved-risks which should always be respected.
My suggestion to help others in this sub: keep the narratives "real" 24/7.
I'll close this post with an interesting chart:
Margined Futures Falling Falling and Falling....
Check the margin levels from 2021 ATH #1 (April/May) to 2021 ATH #2 (the ATH to date) for the #1 Market Cap Coin. That is not the pattern of margin allocation vis a vis a CERTAIN thing-it is precisely the reverse. Note that allocation peaked at the first 2021 hopium hurrah-and then has burned right off since. This is "smart money" talking, loudly.
So move forward, gamble if it serves, and should fortune favor your bold gamble-good for you! :)
And in time....we'll see if that mouse up there gets away-or eaten. :)
Good luck out there.
TLDR: Investing is Gambling. Trading is High Effort Gambling. Hodling is Low Effort Gambling. But all Crypto Purchase Seeking Gains Is Gambling-by consensual definition.

2022.01.19 17:23 Cynophilis Bloom Health (CSE: BLMH) Implementing Health Testing & Screening with Multi-Billion Dollar Co’s Including Netflix, Apple TV+, AmazonStudios, Pepsi, Six Flags and more.
I’ve been accumulating Bloom Health (BLMH.C). I’m shocked it is still unknown being that they have major clients including, Netflix, Pepsi, Apple TV+, amazonstudios, American Airlines, Six Flags, ViacomCBS, and more. The validation from these names was enough for me to investigate it further.
Bloom started out as a major leader in COVID testing, but has transitioned into an Occupation Health company providing on site health care (examples: fitness & drug testing. Health screening such as diabetes, cancer etc. Consulting services. Research. And a recurring revenue model with their SAAS software.).
I’ve listened to a few of BLMH’s interviews on different podcasts and youtube channels. This recent one from last month really covers their rapid expansion across all 5 of their lines of business.

2022.01.19 17:23 lobobricord Looking specifically for scripted, serial history podcasts
I'm looking for listening recommendations that fit my specific preferences in podcasts. I pretty much only enjoy the type of podcast that works pretty directly from a script and covers historical topics in depth over many episodes.
I've made an occasional exception for Hardcore History, even though it's improvised more than I usually like, or Blowback, which has more conversation and joking around than I prefer with its two hosts. I'm fine with a series having a few "interview with an expert" episodes mixed in but I probably won't listen to those.
Basically, the closer a podcast is to being a history audiobook, the more I like it. (Yes, I do listen to history audiobooks too.)
While I'm picky about the format, I'm down to try pretty much any historical period and topic. Done a lot of European history so far, but would love to expand.
Some of my favorites that I would like to find more that are similar to: Revolutions/History of Rome, Age of Napoleon, The China History Podcast, The History of English Podcast, History of Yugoslavia, When Diplomacy Fails, History of Byzantium.
